Birth Doula Services:
Create Your Birth Experience
Doula services provided in the Detroit Metro Area and online throughout the U.S.
Doulas, also known as a labor coach or a birth attendant, are trained and experienced professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support throughout a woman’s pregnancy and birth.
DOULAS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Many studies show that women who work with doulas have better outcomes during their delivery, including fewer complications and a more positive overall experience.
Studies also indicate that birth doula support can result in:
50%
reduction in cesarean
25%
shorter labor
60%
reduction in epidural request
40%
reduction in narcotic use
40%
reduction in foreceps delivery

What to expect when working with a birth doula
Once you say “Yes!” to the doula…
You’ll receive a contract and will submit a non-refundable deposit. I’m officially on call two weeks before and after your estimated due date. You’ll get two pre-delivery visits, where I can meet with your birth team or help you virtually craft your birth plan. Together, we’ll also review comfort measures (including strategies you can use during birth, like breathing strategies, visualizations, and more). We will also discuss your plans for breastfeeding after the baby comes!
Once your postpartum and lactation plan is finalized…
I’ll upload the plan to your medical MyChart, so your medical care team knows your wishes. Once you go into labor, I’ll be there (via a virtual app or in person) to provide continuous labor support and coaching. I can even provide a birthing pool if you prefer a home birth!
After baby arrives…
You’ll receive one postpartum visit (in person or virtual), and I’ll help you unpack and understand your birth resources. I’ll also offer some lactation support to help you get comfortable with breastfeeding! After our last visit, you’ll have everything you need to care for your newest addition and recover from birth.
Common questions about working with a doula
-
My in-person doula services start at $2,000. If you’re looking for virtual support (not in-person at home, hospital, or birthing center), rates start at $900.
-
This answer varies based on the hospital or facility where you plan to give birth and the facility’s visitor policies. Because I am a certified doula, most hospitals will let me into your birth but this can change based on facility possible or a spike in COVID numbers. If you are COVID+, unfortunately, I will not be there in person at your birth. Your package will then switch to virtual labor support.
-
Yes, I offer an a la carte birth planning session, where we speak for 1 hour and create your birth plan. I’ll ask what you’d like to experience during your birth and then I upload your final plan into MyChart. This costs $200.
-
I am happy to support you at home, in a birthing center, in a hospital, or wherever you want to give birth. Please note that I am not a medically trained midwife, which means I cannot provide medical care to you during birth.
-
A doula is not a midwife. Doulas are professionally trained birth assistants who specialize in labor support. A midwife is often a Registered Nurse or a Certified Professional Midwife who is a professional primary maternity care provider.
I do, however, offer montrice services. A montrice is a labor support person who also has clinical training. As a montrice, I offer all the emotional and physical support of a doula along with the ability to monitor your baby’s heart, conduct cervical exams, check vitals, and more. Contact me today to learn more about this service and pricing.

I do offer additional postpartum care, but with your doula package, you’ll receive one postpartum visit (in person or virtual). I’ll help you unpack and understand your birth resources and also offer some lactation support to help you get comfortable with breastfeeding! After our last visit, you’ll have everything you need to care for your newest addition and recover from birth.
Let’s create your birth vision together
I know that you’re a strong, capable woman who is ready to bring amazing new life into this world! I am here to help you know your options, create a plan that works for you, and advocate for you every step of the way.
Let’s discuss your wishes for your birth and start to create it together.
Nyasia is extremely knowledgeable, professional, patient, and kind; and she was a tremendous help to my children and me before, during, and after the birth.
I am so glad I chose Nyasia as my birth doula for the birth of my son, Zokyas! When we were considering a home birth, I knew that I wanted someone who would help me to understand what was going on and to feel empowered to make good decisions about the home birthing process but who would not push a particular type of birth or philosophy; Nyasia’s style was an excellent fit for what I wanted in my birth experience.
